Silver Surfer, the interstellar and intergalactic superhero from Marvel Comics who’s best known for their metallic skin and silver surfboard, will be portrayed by actress Julia Garner in Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four, entertainment outlets have learned. A live-action version of the Silver Surfer was last seen in 2017’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, played by Doug Jones (Hellboy, The Shape of Water).

Garner’s credits include:

  • Ozark (Ruth Langmore)
  • Sin City: A Dame to Kill for (Marcie)
  • The Royal Hotel (Hanna)
  • Waco (Michele Jones)
  • The Assistant (Jane)
  • The Last Exorcism Part II (Gwen)

Garner at work in Netflix’s Ozark:

Deadline noted in its coverage:

…sources say Garner will play Shalla-Bal, a version of Silver Surfer from the comics. WandaVision helmer Matt Shakman is directing Fantastic Four off a script by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Eric Pearson and Ian Springer. Production will begin this summer, and the film is set to bow on July 25, 2025.

Shalla-Bal is described as the Surfer’s “lifelong love” on Marvel.com:

Several times…the Surfer was briefly reunited with Shalla-Bal, who was used as an unwilling pawn against the Surfer by foes such as Mephisto and Gort; but circumstances always forced the lovers apart, sending Shalla Bal home each time.
