BioShock developer Cloud Chamber has updated that it is looking to fill positions at its two studio locations in California and Montreal. 2K Games officially announced the formation of Cloud Chamber in 2019 and that the new studio would be tasked with creating the next entry BioShock franchise. Since then things have mostly been quiet regarding its development but Cloud Chamber has now announced it’s “recruiting like mad” to get game developers for its Novato, CA, and Montreal, Quebec locations.

Per Cloud Chamber:

  • “Cloud Chamber is hard at work on the next entry in the critically acclaimed BioShock series. Our team consists of veteran BioShock developers and expert game makers from other mind-blowing titles, and together we’re going to create worlds that you’ll want to experience.”
  • “Cloud Chamber is currently recruiting like mad for game developers in two amazing locations: the San Francisco Bay Area (Novato, CA) and Montreal, Quebec. Our open positions are below. If you are a passionate, ridiculously talented game developer and you don’t see a position you like, we’d love to hear from you anyway (because you never know).”

Veterans from the original game

The BioShock developer currently has 29 job openings listed but encourages folks to contact them if interested in becoming part of the even if they don’t see one specific to their talents. VGC notes how some veterans from the original are still involved with the next game. They include designer Jonathan Pelling, its designer, creative director Hoagy de la Plante, and art director Scott Sinclair. BioShock’s creator Ken Levine is not involved in the project but is still with 2K Games and working on his own project which is expected to arrive before Take-Two’s fiscal year ends in March 2025.

Next Game Details:

Not a whole lot has been officially shared about the new game other than that it is in development. At one point there was a working codename for it called BioShock Isolation but has since been to have been abandoned. An old job posting described it as taking place in “a new and fantastical world” which suggested the game could move beyond its known Rapture and Columbia locations. A few years ago it was reported that the setting for the new game would be during the 1960s in Borealis, a city in the Antarctic. At one point it was also said the game was being built using Unreal Engine 4 but at this point, it’s far more likely to be using UE5.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
