Star Wars and Marvel Updates, a Mountain of Sequels, New Trailer for Tron: Ares, and More Revealed at Disney Entertainment Showcase D23 2024

Disney has pulled out all the stops at its D23 expo and from Star Wars and Marvel updates to many other projects, it has already revealed a lot. Disney Entertainment Showcase D23 2024, aka D23, is happening this weekend from August 9 – 11 and has already had a ton of news regarding not just Star Wars and Marvel updates but also many sequels, new movie trailers, and more. Below is a summary of the many things announced since yesterday.

Star Wars Updates:

  • Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
    • The first official trailer was released and the show will begin streaming on December 3.
  • The Mandalorian & Grogu Updates
    • Filming has begun
    • Set for May 22, 2026 release
    • Early teaser footage (below via Deadline) was shown at D3
  • Andor Season 2
    • Said to span over four years
    • Will see the return of K-2SO
    • New teaser footage shown at D3 and leaked online (below)
  • LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy
    • Four-piece (episode) event premiering on Disney+ on September 13

Marvel Updates

  • Daredevil: Born Again
    • Said to premiere on Disney+ in March 2025
    • Its cast and crew are already preparing to film its second season
    • A new trailer was shown at D23 and leaked online (below)
  • Ironheart
    • Set to premiere in 2025
    • New Trailer (leaked online below)
  • Agatha All Along
    • Arrives on Disney+ on September 18
    • New official trailer released

Tron: Ares

  • Filming has officially finished.
  • The first trailer was shown at D23 and leaked online
  • Nine Inch Nails are providing the soundtrack
  • Official description (via IGN): “Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.”
  • Jared Leto revealed his character is a new Master Control Program that wants to invade the real world and make it his own, permanently.
  • Said to be released sometime in 2025

Avatar 3

  • Avatar 3 has now been given its official title, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and a new movie poster was also revealed.

 Percy Jackson and the Olympians

  • Teaser video for the official start of season 2 production

Sequels news:

  • Moana 2 new official trailer promoting the November 27, 2024, theatrical release
  • Freaky Friday 2 gets its official title: Freakier Friday
  • Toy Story 5 announced with a teaser trailer for a summer 2026 release
  • Incredibles 3 announced, Brad Bird returning, but no other details yet.
  • Zootopia 2 clip revealed showing new cast member Ke Huy Quan
  • Frozen 3 new concept art revealed

Other Projects:

  • Disney Monster Jam, a new animated monster truck project announced starring The Rock.
  • New Inside Out spinoff Dream Productions debuted its first series with Win or Lose trailer
  • A new project called Hoppers starring Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, and Piper Curda announced for spring 2026 theatrical release
  • Elio revealed for June 2025 theatrical release with Zoe Saldana now added to its cast
  • Mufasa: The Lion King, new trailer released promotion its December 20, 2024 theatrical release.
