Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IV, a new mainline installment and extension to the original sub-series that Infinity Ward introduced with its iconic 2007 title, Call of Duty 4, is currently in development for Microsoft’s next generation of Xbox video game consoles, according to new rumors that have been shared online.

See below for some of the bullet points that @TheGhostOfHope alleged today, which include the lack of support for current-generation consoles (e.g., the Xbox Series X|S), as well as the potential end of Warzone, the free-to-play Call of Duty mode that is currently in its second iteration:

  • No Old Gen support
  • Traditional UI like the older games (More traditional than BO6)
  • Engine being overhauled to address MWII problems like “visual clutter” etc.
  • Being developed on Dev Kits for the Next Xbox
  • No “Warzone 3” if Verdansk fails to retain current/returning players

“Biggest W isn’t just the old gen support but also them removing visual clutter that we received with the MWII engine,” @TheGhostOfHope continued in a follow-up tweet on X that was posted this afternoon. “Can’t wait to hopefully not have forced Anti Aliasing in the game.”

These rumors of a Modern Warfare IV come two weeks after Activision launched Season 02 Reloaded, a new season of Black Ops 6 that introduces several new pieces of multiplayer content to the latest Call of Duty game, including two Multiplayer maps, six new weapons, a Directed Mode for The Tomb (Zombies), and even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

“The Ninja Turtles have arrived in Call of Duty and are kicking things off with a limited time Moshpit giving everyone the chance to let loose with their best TMNT-themed abilities and moves,” the Call of Duty team wrote last month.

“Enter a game of Team Deathmatch, Domination, or Hardpoint and unleash ninja-level abilities and TMNT Scorestreaks against your enemies in pursuit of victory. These special Scorestreaks are earned by scoring as normal, but because the turtles work as a team, objective plays award an increase in the score.”
