Defective NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 GPUs with Missing ROPs May Deliver up to 11% Less Performance in Gaming, New Tests Reveal

Early GeForce RTX 5080 adopters who had the misfortune of receiving one of NVIDIA’s new “Blackwell” GPUs with missing ROPs may see as much as a 11% loss in performance in some of today’s most popular games, according to new benchmarks that have surfaced online.

Here’s the word from Gamers Nexus’ Steve Burke, who posted a video over the weekend to demonstrate how some GeForce RTX 5080 GPUs on the market may not deliver the level of performance that NVIDIA continues to advertise on GeForce.com and other official channels:

And here’s how many ROPs the GeForce RTX 50 Series may be missing, according to some of the latest numbers that have been shared online:

  • GeForce RTX 5090: 168 (correct: 176)
  • GeForce RTX 5080: 104 (correct: 112)
  • GeForce RTX 5070 Ti: 88 (correct: 96)
