NetEase Games has announced its first AAA single-player title, Blood Message. It features cinematic visuals and is powered by Unreal Engine 5. Set in ancient China, NetEase says that the game is “Story Driven, Single-Player Adventure,” which has been made with cutting-edge technology. Players will get to experience a historical period during the Dunhuang uprising, which occurred at the end of the Tang Dynasty. An unnamed messenger and his son are tasked with taking a message across the land in a 1000-mile journey filled with dangerous and unforgiving deserts and “Visceral, realistic combat,” while employing stealth and survival mechanics to reach their goal.

“As our first completely single-player focused experience from NetEase Games, after two decades of deep dedication to the gaming industry, we are prepared to deliver a truly epic and cinematic experience for players around the world.”

-Zhipeng Hu, Lead Producer and NetEase Executive Vice President

“The game invites players to step into the shoes of unsung heroes—not emperors or generals—but ordinary people driven by extraordinary resolve. As part of a righteous uprising in Shazhou, Dunhuang, the father and son must navigate a collapsing world, torn between duty to country and love for family. When history forgets, warriors remember. The world has heard too many stories of emperors and generals—Blood Message is an ode to the unsung heroes.”

4K Screenshots

NetEase Games has provided 4K screen captures in its press release, showing off the cinematic visual design of Blood Message. The game is being made with Unreal Engine 5. More screenshots can be viewed on the game’s official webpage here. It is clear the developers are very proud of their accomplishments with the realistic-looking image quality. PC-specific features, or system requirements, have not yet been revealed, but the game does appear to be using some ray tracing and probably also supports HDR. NetEase Games has not announced a release date, but Blood Message is planned to launch for PC and consoles, giving players the chance to traverse ancient China in an epic story.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
