A lot is going on for the God of War franchise, with multiple projects in the works, including remakes, new titles, and a streaming series. It was revealed last week during Sony’s State of Play event that Santa Monica Studios is celebrating the franchise’s 20th anniversary by working on remaking the original trilogy set in ancient Greece. The new announcement caught many by surprise during the event that featured a flood of other new game reveals.

Of course, the question of who is voicing Kratos has been on fans’ minds, and one such person managed to meet Christopher Judge, who’s voiced the character in the most recent games, and asked for an update. Per VGC, Judge, who may not have been aware he was being recorded, said we should get news about a new game featuring him sometime this summer, but he will not voice the character in the remakes. TC Carson will be reprising the role for them instead, and this is good news for fans, as it is rare to have such great talent available when it comes to multiple actors portraying the same character. Judge did leak that the remakes will feature a new fighting system.

Another surprise reveal during last week’s event was a new game, which was shadowdropped on Steam. God of War: Sons of Sparta did, at first, appear to be something many fans had hoped for by offering a 2-player couch co-op mode. However, what was not made clear in the $29.99 (base)/$39.99 (deluxe) side scroller’s description is that the 2-player mode is locked until the single-player campaign has been completed. Per Push Square, this led number of fans to vent their frustrations online but also demand refunds. Santa Monica Studio has since posted a response on social media clarifying details regarding the game’s co-op mode.

Lastly is the Amazon God of War streaming series. The show is said to focus on the loss of Kratos’ wife and possibly set during the time of the more recent games based on Norse mythology, but would likely include flashbacks to ancient Greece. Many of the major characters have been cast and include some actors from the games. Amazon has not given a release date yet, but it could arrive in 2027. More details regarding the live-action show can be found here.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
