Grand Theft Auto VI is on its way, and pre-orders for what is expected to be the biggest release of the year will become available on June 25. Rockstar has also released new cover art for the game, featuring the franchise’s iconic montage art-style design, showing scenes and main characters. It was only a month ago when Best Buy sent emails to its affiliates stating it would be opening pre-orders for the game, but that turned out to be an internal error. Since then, things have been quiet until this official announcement.

The release for Grand Theft Auto VI has been pushed back multiple times over the years, but is now set for November 19, where it will launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Grand Theft Auto VI‘s launch is expected to have an industry-wide impact, with multiple publishers shifting their AAA title releases to either before or after its launch in an attempt to avoid competing with it. Ironically, there’ve already been false starts due to its multiple launch date push-backs, resulting in publishers changing their own title release dates, but this time around, the November 19 is pretty much set in stone. Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has confirmed it in financials for the publisher and gone on record in interviews stating that the game will launch as planned this time around.

Console manufacturers Sony and Microsoft are likely to see a positive impact of the game’s release with an uptick in Xbox and PlayStation 5 sales, something both are likely looking forward to during the holiday window. Neither is expected to have new hardware until either 2027 or 2028, but Microsoft has announced that it’s launching the X25 anniversary edition of the Xbox in the same month, which could be a high-demand item for those wanting a new machine to play on when the game launches.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
