Epic Games, the company best known for Fortnite and giving away countless free games on the Epic Games Store, is now “financially sound”, according to new comments that CEO Tim Sweeney made during yesterday’s Unreal Fest 2024 event. Sweeney’s comments come almost exactly a year after Epic Games laid off 830 people, or roughly 16% of the company, in September 2023. A look at one of Unreal Engine 5.5’s newest features, MegaLights, can be found below.

“We spent the last year rebuilding and really executing solidly on all fronts,” he said. “I’m happy to tell you now that the company is financially sound, and that Fortnite and the Epic Games Store have hit new records in concurrency and success.” Sweeney also revealed that Fortnite achieved a new peak over the holidays, reaching 110 million monthly active users.
