Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise is getting the big screen treatment. The action role-playing game will make its way to the silver screen on September 4th, 2020. Writer, producer, and director, Paul W.S. Anderson has taken the reigns for this ride. A leaked trailer appeared online last month that can be seen here. The leaked trailer was recorded at the 2019 Shanghai International Film Festival so it’s likely a U.S. trailer is soon to follow. According to IMDB the film has a completed status.

Already having extensive experience with a number of Capcom properties Paul W.S. Anderson is bringing some alumni with him in this one. Having starred in a number of his Resident Evil movies Milla Jovovich is joining in this one as well as Lt. Artemis. Not unaccustomed to either hunting, or being hunted, veteran Hellboy actor Ron Perlman will also be present. An interesting twist since both have been in different Hellboy movies. Rounding out the cast martial arts film star Tony Jaa portrays a character simply known as the hunter. A simple story synopsis explains that her company find themselves transported to a new world in which they, of course, engage in fights with monsters.

The Game

Monster Hunter has steadily been ramping up over the last few years. Initially released in 2004 it brought its flavor of timed missions and quests to gaming. Throughout 2017 and 2018 the latest installment, Monster Hunter World, was released for Playstation 4, Windows, and Xbox one. Numerous DLC followed. More than a few fellow Capcom characters from other games have shown up including those of Resident Evil. Geralt of Rivia got to travel this universe to lend his monster hunting skills in 2019 as well. Released for PC on January 9th, 2020, Iceborne is the latest content to be added. On a technical PC note MHW is also one of the rare games to incorporate NVIDIA’s DLSS feature in order to increase the games performance.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
