New details regarding Microsoft’s upcoming X25 Limited Edition Xbox Series X have surfaced, including the price of it and its controller. The X25 will launch this Black Friday (per Dealabs) and include a controller for €899.99 in Europe. U.S. pricing has not been confirmed but is expected to be the same. If accurate, this will be a $100 increase over the current base model Xbox Series X, which, along with Sony’s PlayStation 5 consoles, has both continually had their prices raised over the last 18 months. The X25 will then match the cost of a PlayStation 5 Pro (with optical drive) when it launches on November 27. Announced in June, the X25 is a commemorative 25th Anniversary Edition Xbox Series X with an optical drive and 1TB of storage.

“Meet the XBOX Series X25 Limited Edition console and the XBOX Controller X25 Special Edition. Inspired by one of the most iconic XBOX console designs in our 25-year history, it’s now reimagined for XBOX Series X with the full power of a modern console experience. Coming November 2026.”

Meanwhile, the iconic translucent green design once used for the original Xbox has also been used for the XBOX Wireless Controller Special Edition X25, which thankfully Microsoft has seen fit to offer separately. Also, according to Dealabs, pre-orders for the X25 controller open next week during Gamescom 2026 on August 26. Regional pricing is reported to be €79.99 / £74.99 / $79.99 USD / CA$99.99 and will also launch in the fall, but earlier, on October 20, 2026. As of now, it does not appear that there will be any other significant hardware changes made to the X25 beyond its retro-cosmetic makeover, so those hoping for a more powerful system are out of luck.

“The XBOX Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition packs 25 years of design into every detail. For the first time, see through the back case and battery door, revealing the classic XBOX logo. Original-color ABXY buttons bring the past forward, while the green XBOX button calls back to the moment the first green “X” burst onto the scene. Coming October 2026.”

Above is Microsoft’s official reveal trailer for the X25 and its controller, which has now racked up nearly 1.4 million views since June. There’s still no word on when an Xbox Series X|S successor will launch, but it might arrive as early as 2027 or perhaps sometime in 2028. Both Sony and Microsoft are in a similar bind, as each tries to wrestle with increased manufacturing costs that have already culminated in price increases for current models and are sure to present challenges for next-gen technology.

They need to clear out that warehouse of unsold inventory, hence "limited edition".

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
