Red Dead Redemption 2

In our first game graph we have Red Dead Redemption 2 at 1080p, the resolution AMD says the Radeon RX 5600 XT is built for.  In fact, AMD says the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT can provide an “Ultimate” 1080p gaming experience.  Therefore, to test this claim we have raised all the in-game settings in this, particularly intense graphics game to the highest “Ultra” settings.  We have manually turned up every option to “Ultra” settings.  We have also turned on everything except MSAA, we are using the standard shader-based TAA which has little performance impact.

In this graph, the XFX Radeon RX 5600 XT THICC II Pro averages 34FPS and is not playable at these settings.  Comparatively, this is 10% faster than the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, so it does offer better performance than that video card.  The GeForce RTX 2060 FE is 7% faster than the XFX Radeon RX 5600 XT THICC II Pro, however at 36FPS it too is not playable.

The fastest video card, at no surprise, is the Radeon RX 5700, but at only 40FPS average it is barely playable.  For the most part, it would be rough in some areas dropping to the lower 30’s.  Comparing the XFX Radeon RX 5600 XT THICC II Pro to the Radeon RX 5700 we find that the RX 5700 is 17% faster.  Therefore, that is the difference between the two video cards and shows how much you will gain with an RX 5700.

This game is a tough one, it is hard on all GPUs graphically speaking.  Even the Radeon RX 5700 at 1080p is having trouble here, not really delivering the kind of performance you’d enjoy.  We had to test this game though to show that there are games out there that playing them at “Ultra” settings are not playable, even if AMD says the Radeon RX 5600 XT should provide an “Ultimate” 1080p gaming experience.  That is going to depend on the game.

We wanted to run this game again this time at a lower setting since it is a case where it’s a very demanding game.  That way we can give the Radeon RX 5600 XT the best chance we can.  Therefore, in the graph above we are now running at a custom “High” graphics setting.  That is, we set all the in-game options to “High” instead of Ultra.

The XFX Radeon RX 5600 XT THICC II Pro now performs at a more respectable 47FPS and is playable.  However, the positioning of video cards doesn’t change.  The XFX Radeon RX 5600 XT THICC II Pro is 7% faster than the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti.  The GeForce RTX 2060 is 6% faster than the XFX Radeon RX 5600 XT THICC II Pro.  The Radeon RX 5700 is 16% faster than the XFX Radeon RX 5600 XT THICC II Pro.
