The Division 2
1080p Highest In-Game Settings
In The Division 2 we are running the game at 1080p with the highest in-game settings. Performance is exactly the same, no difference at all between 4GB and 8GB maxed out at 1080p. So let’s raise the resolution and see what happens.
1440p Highest In-Game Settings
At 1440p we have kept the highest in-game settings enabled. Raising the resolution seems to have done it for this game, there is now a performance difference with maxed out game settings. The 8GB Radeon RX 5500 XT is 36% faster than the 4GB Radeon RX 5500 XT.
This is a huge difference percentage-wise. But actual frames per second wise it does not make the game playable. The game is unplayable on both video cards at 1440p with maxed-out settings. Therefore, 8GB does improve performance, but the Radeon RX 5500 XT is too slow for 1440p maxed out game settings, to begin with.
1440p “High” Preset
We wanted to lower settings to see what would happen. When we lowered the game to the “High” preset at 1440p performance was exactly the same, no advantage at all with the 8GB video card. The performance is also now at a playable level with the lower game settings.
This shows that at the demanding settings where 8GB would show an advantage are also at unplayable levels. Lowering the game settings makes it so 8GB doesn’t make a difference in performance, right where the game is now playable.
