Well, that wasn’t too long of a delay, was it? Sony has announced that its “Future of Gaming” PlayStation 5 event, which was originally scheduled to take place last Thursday, will proceed later this week on June 11 at 1:00 PM (PDT). That’s right; we should be getting our first real glimpse of potential launch titles running on PS5 hardware in just a few days.

“Now that the event is confirmed for June 11, I wanted to add that this pre-taped program will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second,” wrote SIE Content Communications Senior Director Sid Shuman “This eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home. The games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect.”

That part about the broadcast being presented at 30 frames per second seems a little concerning. Could we be in for another generation of mostly sub-60-FPS gaming on consoles?

“It’s also best if you watch while wearing headphones, if you can — there’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers,” added Shuman. It’s hard to imagine how great the audio could be on a compressed video stream, however.
