Contrary to previous rumors, the PlayStation 5 will only be backward compatible with PlayStation 4 titles. That’s according to a new support document posted by Ubisoft (“Transitioning PlayStation 4 Titles to Next-Gen Versions”), which states that backward compatibility isn’t possible for PS3, PS2, or PS1 games.

“Backwards compatibility will be available for supported PlayStation 4 titles, but will not be possible for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation games,” Ubisoft wrote.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is the Xbox Series X, which will boast backward compatibility for all previous generations. “Backwards compatibility will be available for supported Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Xbox titles,” another support document reads.
