1440p GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE Performance

On this page, we will now look at 1440p gameplay performance on the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition which is more intense than 1080p and less CPU bound. Note that the comparison cards we are using are a GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER Founders Edition and GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER Founders Edition and a Radeon RX 5700 XT. For all games we are using the built-in benchmarks where possible, otherwise, it’s a manual run-through. We are running the games in either DX12 or Vulkan where supported.

Watch Dogs Legion

Watch Dogs Legion 1440p Performance Graph

At 1440p Watch Dogs Legion is even more intense on graphics performance, but check this out. The new GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition is maintaining an average of 60FPS at 1440p with “Ultra” settings in the game! This is very impressive, for such a graphically intense game it is actually playable on the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE at 1440p for a $399 video card. This is actually a few percent faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER FE. That’s with HD Textures installed as well, but no Ray Tracing turned on. As an upgrade from the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER FE it’s a 36% performance improvement. Compared to the Radeon RX 5700 XT it’s a 24% performance improvement.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn 1440p Performance Graph

In Horizon Zero Dawn the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE at “Ultimate” preset at 1440p is also playable in Horizon Zero Dawn. It’s producing a very high and smooth 95FPS average, so this game is also incredibly playable at 1440p on this $399 video card. Compared to the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER it is 9% faster, the highest benefit so far over that card. Compared to the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER FE it is a bit 53% performance upgrade, also the largest so far. Compared to the Radeon RX 5700 XT it’s a 28% performance upgrade.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Microsoft Flight Simulator 1440p Performance Graph

On the previous page, at 1080p performance, we saw all the video cards be very CPU bottlenecked. However, at 1440p we see some separation between them. The Radeon RX 5700 XT really suffers in this game at the higher resolutions, but the RTX 2060 SUPER FE isn’t far behind it. The new GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE fixes this, it provides 29% more performance in this very CPU driven game at 1440p. That allows for a much better gameplay experience on the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE at 1440p. This is a great level of performance for this game, very acceptable, and feels smooth.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 1440p Performance Graph

We know this game is demanding, and at 1080p we achieved over 60FPS on the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE with the highest in-game settings. At 1440p performance drops below 60FPS, but not too terrible to be honest, it’s around 54-55FPS on average. This is still acceptable and a good gameplay experience. That means the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE, a $399 video card is allowing a playable gameplay experience in this demanding game at 1440p. It’s a lot faster than the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER FE by 35%, and the same for the Radeon RX 5700 XT. Those cards are not playable, so the RTX 3060 Ti FE allows a good game experience at 1440p.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Ghost Recon Breakpoint 1440p Performance Graph

In Ghost Recon Breakpoint at 1440p and the highest “Ultimate” quality setting the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE just blows through this game. It’s at 93FPS, enough said really right? This is 8% faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER FE and 39% faster than the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER FE. This game is more than playable on the RTX 3060 Ti FE at 1440p.

Control

Control 1440p Performance Graph

In Control at 1440p with the highest in-game settings the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE exceeds the performance of the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER FE slightly. It’s certainly more than playable at 76FPS average. This is much smoother than the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER FE which it beats out by 40% in performance. This game is more than playable on it at 1440p.

Wolfenstein Youngblood

Wolfenstein Youngblood 1440p Performance Graph

It’s very obvious in this game the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE is playable at 1440p with the highest settings. At 176FPS it’s 4% faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER FE. It’s also 43% faster than the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER FE. In fact, we also found the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE can play this game very well at 4K at the highest in-game settings as well. This game just performs so well on it that 4K is no problem on the RTX 3060 Ti FE.

Metro Exodus

Metro Exodus 1440p Performance Graph

Another game that is very demanding is Metro Exodus, and 1440p does stress graphics performance by a great deal at “Extreme” quality. Where were achieve 60FPS at 1080p, here at 1440p the game drops to 50FPS on the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE. This level of performance is on the border of being playable or not, depends on the level and the scene. For the most part, it is playable, but some situations may feel a little too slow in the more demanding parts, but then all you have to do is bump the quality down one notch and it’s extremely playable and much faster. Compared to the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER FE the new RTX 3060 Ti FE is 40% faster, and a very big difference in framerate from 36FPS to 50FPS.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Shadow of the Tomb Raider 1440p Performance Graph

In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE is on the top of performance with all the game settings turned on and SMAA 4X at 1440p. It averages near 70FPS so the game is smooth and feels great. This is also slightly faster than the RTX 2080 SUPER FE and 40% faster than the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER FE and Radeon RX 5700 XT.
