The title card at the end of The Mandalorian’s season two finale has generated plenty of speculation. Is “The Book of Boba Fett” referring to season three of The Mandalorian, or is it a spin-off series revolving around the legendary bounty hunter?

In a tweet sent out this morning, Disney confirmed that it’s definitely the latter. The Book of Boba Fett is a “new original series” that will bring back Temuera Morrison in the titular role, as well as Ming-Na Wen’s part-cyborg assassin character Fennec Shand.

Disney clarified that the show will be set within the timeline of The Mandalorian. This isn’t too surprising, as doing so might allow Din Djarin and Boba Fett to have more adventures together.

We’re also learning that Desperado and Sin City director Robert Rodriguez is joining Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni as an executive producer, which suggests that they’re doubling down on the action.

The Book of Boba Fett will premiere on Disney+ December 2021. Interestingly, season three of The Mandalorian is scheduled to be released that very same month.

“We wanted to hold this back because we didn’t want to spoil the surprise during the big Disney announcement for all the shows […] and so they let me keep this one a secret,” Favreau said in an interview with Good Morning America. “This is actually separate from The Mandalorian Season 3.”
