Gameplay Performance

We will be testing at 1440p with the highest in-game graphics settings. “SAM ON” means Smart Access Memory is enabled. The OVERCLOCKED AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT card is running at an “Up To” GPU frequency of 2800MHz and a memory frequency of 17.2GHz.

Hitman 3

For this game we are enabling all the graphics options at the highest setting.  However, we do have Variable Shading disabled.  We are running the Dubai built-in benchmark.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Overclocked Hitman 3 1440p Performance Graph

Overclocking the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT in Hitman 3 has given us a 5% performance improvement at 1440p. This puts its performance now on par with the GeForce RTX 3070 performance. Before the overclock, it was slower than the RTX 3070, now it is on equal footing in performance with this overclock. If you compare the overclock performance with the Radeon RX 5700 XT it’s a 29% performance increase.

Cyberpunk 2077

For Cyberpunk 2077 we are using patched version 1.12 for testing.  We use the in-game graphics presets for testing at “Ultra” settings and enabling Ray Tracing.  We do a manual run-through in the game for the benchmark data.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Overclocked Cyberpunk 2077 1440p Performance Graph

Overclocking the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT in Cyberpunk 2077 gave us a 6% performance increase at 1440p. Before the overclock performance was just under the GeForce RTX 3070. With the overclock performance is just barely over, you can pretty much consider both at the same performance and gameplay experience now. Cyberpunk 2077 is definitely playable at 1440p and “Ultra” settings on the Radeon RX 6700 XT overclocked, giving us very smooth gameplay. Comparing the overclocked performance with the Radeon RX 5700 XT it’s a 47% increase, which is quite large.

Dirt 5

In Dirt 5 we set all the graphics options to the highest values.  We manually select resolution and do not let the game manage automatic resolution scaling, we hard set the resolution in all three categories to the resolution being tested.  We use the built-in benchmark.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Overclocked Dirt 5 1440p Performance Graph

Overclocking the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT in Dirt 5 yields a 6% performance increase at 1440p. Before the overclock performance was just under the GeForce RTX 3070, now performance is equal with the GeForce RTX 3070. Comparing the overclock with the Radeon RX 5700 XT it’s a 38% performance increase.

Watch Dogs Legion

In Watch Dogs Legion we use the graphics preset to select “Ultra” quality.  We use the built-in benchmark for testing.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Overclocked Watch Dogs Legion 1440p Performance Graph

Overclocking the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT in Watch Dogs Legion only improved performance by 5% at 1440p. The actual FPS difference is quite small in this game, only 3FPS on average. While 65FPS is definitely playable, and you’ll have a good gameplay experience, overclocking the card just didn’t make a huge impact in this particular game. Still, as we said, the game is very playable at 1440p and “Ultra” settings with the card overclocked. At the overclocked performance though, the GeForce RTX 3070 is still on top. The GeForce RTX 3070 is 6% faster, so it’s a decent gap. Comparing the overclock to the Radeon RX 5700 XT the increase is 30%.
