1440p Gameplay Performance
We are going to start by looking at the 1440p gameplay performance. The Radeon RX 6900 XT is geared for 4K gaming, but we think it is also important to see how it compares at 1440p and what kind of a gaming experience it can provide. We will look at 4K on the next page, and Ray Tracing after that. We do have DLSS and FSR applied where appropriate.
In Metro Exodus Enhanced this game is running with Shading Quality at Extreme and Ray Tracing at Ultra by default. At 1440p the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT struggles with the intense Ray Tracing in this game. It uses Global Illumination, and that takes a large burden on the Radeon video cards. The Radeon RX 6900 XT is only 6% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT, not offering much in the way of performance improvement. The GIGABYTE RTX 3090 is 43% faster without DLSS and with DLSS it’s 93% faster. DLSS adds a lot to it here and it is playable with or without DLSS.
At 1440p in Cyberpunk 2077 with “Ultra” settings the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT is very playable, and so is the Radeon RX 6800 XT. The Radeon RX 6900 XT is just 6% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT, not offering as much to improving performance. However, it does allow it to come much closer to the GIGABYTE RTX 3090 in performance here, nearly matching it. You wouldn’t be able to tell the two apart in a blind play test.
Godfall at 1440p and “Epic” settings is very playable on the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT, same as the Radeon RX 6800 XT. You’ll get above 100FPS while gaming. Once again we find the Radeon RX 6900 XT to be about 6% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT. The GIGABYTE RTX 3090 is faster still by 8% compared to the Radeon RX 6900 XT.
Dirt 5 is very playable at 1440p and the highest in-game settings, you’ll get 137FPS average on the Radeon RX 6900 XT, a very smooth experience. This is only 5% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT though, which is a bit small for the price difference. The GIGABYTE RTX 3090 maintains a performance lead of 4% compared to the Radeon RX 6900 XT.
Watch Dogs Legion at 1440p and the highest “Ultra” settings is actually the fastest on the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. It will give you nearly 100FPS average. The GIGABYTE RTX 3090 is close behind, the gameplay experience is the same between them. The Radeon RX 6900 XT is 7% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT here, the highest difference so far.
In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 we do have the new patch installed which improves CPU efficiency in the game, so we are getting the latest performance boost on all video cards. The GIGABYTE RTX 3090 seems to have a very large performance advantage in this game at 90FPS here. It’s 17% faster than the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which is quite a bit. However, the Radeon RX 6900 XT and 6800 XT are really no slouch at 1440p in this game. They provide 70+ FPS playing the game, so it is extremely playable and the experience is very smooth. The Radeon RX 6900 XT is 7% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT.
Horizon Zero Dawn is very playable on the Radeon RX 6900 XT at 1440p providing 145FPS average. It’s on par with the GIGABYTE RTX 3090 in terms of gameplay experience. The Radeon RX 6900 XT is 9% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT in this game, which is the highest so far.
Red Dead Redemption 2 can be demanding, but the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT has no trouble playing this game maxed out at 1440p. The Radeon RX 6900 XT and GIGABYTE RTX 3090 provide the same gameplay experience. When you turn on DLSS in this game now the RTX 3090 does get a bit of a bump in performance and with DLSS is 15% faster than the RX 6900 XT, but really 90FPS on both is plenty playable. The RX 6900 XT is 7% faster than the RX 6800 XT.
At 1440p in Wolfenstein Youngblood the GIGABYTE RTX 3090 has the performance advantage by 16%. However, the Radeon RX 6900 XT is plenty playable at 262FPS, so it is not a problem. The RX 6900 XT is 8% faster than the RX 6800 XT.
