This year’s Golden Joystick Awards winners have been announced with Elden Ring winning in four categories including Ultimate Game of the Year. Its developer, FromSoftware, also won Studio of the Year. Even though Elden Ring was co-written by famed author George R.R. Martin it lost out to Horizon Forbidden West in the Best Storytelling category. The Steam Deck unsurprisingly won the Best Gaming Hardware award where it competed with the WD_Black SN850 NVMe SSD for the PS5.

In what could be considered a surprise, given that it just set a new PlayStation record, God of War Ragnarök did not win the PlayStation GOTY award – Stray did. The latest GOW game wasn’t even in that category’s nominations and didn’t actually win anything but Christopher Judge was nominated in the Best Performer category and it was also listed in the Ultimate GOTY list. Odds are, we’ll see it win something at the upcoming Game Awards.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
