OC Testing

For our OC testing, we have configured our CPU to run 4100MHz on all cores and set the voltage to 1.3875V. This yields an approximate power at the wall of 255w under load (a 197w differential from idle, which pulls about 58w). This results in the CPU running at 4.1GHz on all cores during the looping rounds of Cinebench R20.

Max Fans

Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo Black overclocked max RPM fan testing

Running our HSFs at full tilt leads to the Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo Black posting a temperature of 70 degrees Celsius which is a good bit ahead of the MasterAir MA624 Stealth at 75.5 degrees Celsius. In third place, the be quiet! Dark Pro 4 achieved 78 degrees Celsius and the IceSLEET X7 Dual was just behind it at 79 degrees Celsius.

We noted that the max fan speed on the Cooler Master Hyper 622 Black topped out at 2100 RPM, the Iceberg Thermal IceSLEET X7 Dual topped out at 1600 RPM, the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 topped out at 1500 RPM and the MasterAir MA 624 Stealth has the lowest max fan rpm at 1400 RPM. This variation of maximum fan speed certainly makes a big difference in top performance.

At the 1500 RPM fan speed (except the MasterAir MA624 Stealth at 1400 RPM), the Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo Black maintains its lead at 73 degrees Celsius. Following just behind it was the MasterAir MA624 Stealth at 75.5 degrees Celcius and then be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 at 78 degrees Celsius. Bringing up the rear was the IceSLEET X7 Dual at 79.88 degrees.

At the 1000 RPM fan speed, the Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo Black completes the running of the cooling game board at 76.38 degrees Celsius. A couple of degrees behind at 78.5 degrees Celsius is the MasterAir MA624 Stealth and the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 posted a value of 82.5 degrees Celsius for a third-place finish. The Thermal IceSLEET X7 Dual failed to keep the temperature in check here and our system crashed.

Now that we have seen how all of our units cool, let’s see if we can still hear!

SUMMARY

We strapped the Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo Black to our Ryzen 2700X based review rig and lit it up to see exactly how much heat it could unload compared to other units that we've reviewed. We found the it to be the best performing air cooler that we've looked at so far which makes it a top pick for new rig if you're going the way of the conventional air cooler.
