Introduction
On the bench today is the Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo Black (RR-D6BB-20PA-R1). It is part of Cooler Master’s vaunted Hyper series of coolers that represents the best offerings that they have. The most well-known is the Hyper 212 series that’s been around longer than most of us reading this can actually remember and has a huge legacy to live up to in today’s era of escalating processor heat. As “Black” is noted on the product title, you would be correct to assume that there’s also a “White” version of this cooler which you can grab if that happens to be your preferred aesthetic.
We’ll strap it to our air cooling test platform that is built around a Ryzen 7 2700X processor with a manufacturer-claimed TDP of 105W. This should provide a reasonable usage case that we are likely to see with some of today’s most demanding air-cooled CPU coolers.
Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo Black Overview
The Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo Black cooler is an air cooler that is designed to work on a wide variety of sockets, including Intel’s LGA115x/1200 and AMD’s AM4/AM5. Notably absent are the older Intel HEDT sockets, the TR4 and AM3 and below.
Heatsink
Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo Black sports six heat pipes which provide full coverage of the nickel-plated copper base to allow for heat dissipation. The pipes extend up into an aluminum dual tower that is sandwiched with fans. The entire assembly is black which is likely why that’s part of its name.
Cooler Master emphasizes the use of the black aluminum cover as a way to show a premium finish on the unit. The cooler has a more traditional mounting setup where you’ll need to remove the fans to get access to the screws needed to strap this to your motherboard.
Fan
Cooler Master includes two 120mm Halo^2 Fans are included and are clipped to the heatsink using provided fan clips.
The Halo^2 fans support a fan speed of 650 to 2050 RPM at a reported noise level of up to 27 dB(A). The stated airflow maximum is 51.88 CFM at 3.36W of power and the MTTF is greater than 160,000. Lastly, this fan uses a 4-pin PWM connector and sport rifle bearings.
The Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo Black presents itself as a large, black cube that tries to make it look familiar (like a Hyper 212) and also allows for showcasing the RGB rings on the Halo^2 fans.
Let’s move on now to our test setup and installation of the Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo Black.
