The PlayStation 5 Pro is currently in development under the codename Project Trinity and has a targeted release date of November 2024, Key to Gaming has reported. According to the website’s sources, the new console is designed to deliver improved and consistent FPS at 4K resolution, as well as accelerated ray tracing and a new Performance Mode that will enable games to be played in 8K resolution. Specifications for Project Trinity supposedly include 18 Gbps vs. 14 Gbps memory and 30 workgroup processors, implying an increase of 24 Compute Units versus the existing model.

It’s understood that Trinity has been in development since early 2022, with sources citing that although the rumours of a canceled PlayStation 5 Pro project are always “fun to read”, Trinity has been the only project in the works for the Pro model. Despite dates being tentative, it’s understood that demo events for the PS5 Pro are already ongoing, with the majority of studios receiving development kits by late November 2023.

Regarding hardware details, the new console is rumored to feature 30 WorkGroup Processors (WGP), which refers to large clusters of GPU cores as per AMD’s terminology. This would be the equivalent of 60 Compute Units compared to PlayStation 5 featuring 36. Additionally, the GPU memory is said to operate at 18 Gbps, an upgrade over PS5’s 14 Gbps. Unfortunately, there is no information on memory specs such as capacity or the bus width.
