The Elder Scrolls VI has left the pre-production phase and is now officially in development. Pete Hines, SVP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda, shared the news last week at Gamescom 2023, telling Spanish gaming site Vandal in a new interview that the game is currently in “early development,” and while he had no real details to share about the sixth installment at this time, including its rumored location of Hammerfell, he did mention that Bethesda isn’t planning on sharing any news about the game until “years later.” Skyrim, the last mainline installment of the series, was released in November 2011.

Vandal: […] Next week we will finally be playing Starfield . We know that Bethesda Game Studios will continue to work on that, but can we expect that after the release of Starfield we will have more news, or any news, about The Elder Scrolls VI ?

Hines: Let’s see, over time, but years later. We have put all of our studios focused on making this game the best it can be. And yes, there are people working on The Elder Scrolls VI, but this is what the studio has focused on. So no, at no point early are you going to hear about The Elder Scrolls VI for nothing. Starfield is our focus for now, and it’s going to remain our priority for a while before we talk about anything else.

Vandal: Just to be clear, is The Elder Scrolls VI in pre-production or in a concept phase?

Hines: No. It’s in development, but it’s in early development .
