Rocksteady Studios has released the first episode of its new Suicide Squad Insider series, offering an extensive look at the story and gameplay of its latest superhero game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

The video, which goes on for nearly 20 minutes and provides new insight on the game’s traversal mechanics and world of Metropolis, includes a number of big reveals, including how Metropolis is way bigger than the city that players saw in its previous game, Batman: Arkham Knight.

According to a writeup that Rocksteady shared on the PlayStation Blog, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is also the latest title to really take advantage of the PS5’s hardware, namely, its SSD:

Our story takes place in a besieged Metropolis, under the ever-present gaze of Brainiac’s Skull Ship. The expansive city of tomorrow is more than twice the size of Gotham in Batman: Arkham Knight and is full of missions, patrolling enemies, and secrets to discover as you progress through the campaign. Most importantly, we designed Metropolis to be a playground for your traversal abilities. We’ve utilized PlayStation 5’s SSD optimization to really push the boundaries of freedom when it comes to traversing around the city, so just getting around the environment is fast and intuitive.

Rocksteady has already confirmed that Harley Quinn will be able to use Batman’s grapnel gun in the game, while Deadshot and Captain Boomberang, two of the Suicide Squad’s other notable members, can fly around on a jetpack and use Speed Force tech, respectively.

And as for the team’s talking shark, players can expect to use him to decimate their enemies:

…Nanaue unleashes his demigod strength to barrel through hordes of enemies, leap great distances, and come crashing to the ground in a wave of destruction. Hear every desperate cry for help, every sidewalk smashed to smithereens, and every alien being turned into chum with PlayStation 5’s 3D Audio as King Shark leaves a trail of destruction in his wake.

Rocksteady says that more episodes of Suicide Squad Insider will be released, offering additional looks at gameplay and combat.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is out on February 2, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Classic outfits will be available for those who pre-order the game, according to another trailer that Rocksteady shared today.
