Titan Forge Games has announced SMITE 2 during its SMITE world championships and said the sequel will use Unreal Engine 5. According to the announcement, there are already more than 40 million people who have played the first game, and the next game is designed to make it easy for first-timers to jump right with auto-build and auto-leveling features. The third-person action 5v5 MOBA is also said to feature full cross-play and cross-progression giving players a seamless experience when playing on different devices.

Per official page:

“SMITE 2 is the only MOBA designed from the start to play amazingly on keyboard and mouse, controller, or SteamDeck. SMITE 2 features full cross-play and cross-progression, so you can play with friends regardless of platform and take your unlocks with you from PC to console.”

Titan Forge added more details for the upcoming game in its SMITE 2 keynote. It has spent ten years developing the game and upgrading from the original. General manager Travis Brown stated the new game was made to have “more impact, more strategy, and creativity”. The game has been fully rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 giving it a two-generation leap over its 2006 predecessor. Animations and effects have also been improved upon for next-gen hardware.

SMITE 2 will be released for PC via Steam and Epic Games, and also for Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The release date has not been revealed but registration for closed Alpha testing has begun and is slated for Spring 2024. The bad news for SMITE 1 players is that skins, over 1,600 from the original game, could not be imported to the new game. The developers stated it takes roughly two months per skin to transfer from UE3 to UE5 and estimated that it would’ve taken over 246 years to do so. However, the developer has said it plans to otherwise reward players who’ve invested in the first game with Legacy Gems that are used for in-game purchases.

As transcribed by VGC:

“Existing content from Smite 1, will not directly translate to Smite 2, but don’t worry, just because your content doesn’t directly transfer doesn’t mean we’re not rewarding our loyal players in Smite 2 for their time, money, and accomplishments,” said exec producer Travis Brown.”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
