Gameplay Performance at 1440p

In this section, we are running the same benchmarks at the same exact settings except the resolution is now set at 2560×1440 or 1440p. All of these cards are aimed at 1440p as well as 1080p so let’s see how they do. Due to the demands of ray tracing we only test here in plain raster, with and without upscaling.

Alan Wake 2

ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB 1440p Alan Wake 2

At the higher resolution, none of the cards are playable without upscaling. It is nice to see all cards smoothly playable with upscaling.  As was previously stated, the game is slow-paced, but 40FPS just isn’t enough. The GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 Gaming OC holds a slim advantage of 5%, while the ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB OC is 3% quicker than the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile. The tables are turned with upscaling, however the RTX 4060 is still the slowest of this trio. Overclocking is steady at a 10% improvement.

Returnal

ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB 1440p Returnal

For all practical purposes, this one ends in a draw, right at 60FPS. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile is 8% slower in upscaling mode. The overclocked card is fastest here by 5 and 7%. The game is pretty much playable in either mode, but much more enjoyable upscaled.

Forspoken

ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB 1440p Forspoken

The scaling on this graph is quite remarkable. As in 1080p, there is something amiss with the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 Gaming OC in this game. The ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB OC has the advantage of 30% and by 12% over the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile. Nearly the same is evident in upscaled performance. Once again overclocking is king by 10%. Notably, only the ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB OC is playable and only with upscaling.

Chernobylite Enhanced Edition

ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB 1440p Chernobylite EE

All playable here all the time. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile has a big advantage, 18% over the two RX cards; which are essentially the same. Upscaling does separate things a little bit, 2.5%. The RTX 4060 maintains an upscaling advantage of 20%. The overclock once again adds 10%.

Dying Light 2

ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB 1440p Dying Light 2

This game is playable and smooth with and without upscaling. The three video cards are evenly matched with only 1% between them. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile is a tad faster in upscaling by about 1%. These numbers are so close they are essentially the same. That 10% shows up again when overclocking.

Cyberpunk 2077

ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB 1440p Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk is playable only by the Radeon RX cards and only with upscaling. The GeForce RTX card is left out, barely. The two Radeon RX cards are a draw in performance. Overclocking adds only 7% in this game, but the overclocked card is once again the fastest. Nonetheless, the game was quite smooth in upscaling mode.

SUMMARY

This review evaluates the newest release from AMD RX 7000 series, the ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB OC. This video card has an interesting white and gray aesthetic and clear RGB fans. It looks and feels well built. It is very quiet and cool even when robustly overclocked. When overclocked we see improved performance over the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 Gaming OC and GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile. This card does struggle in Ray Tracing capability however. The performance does vary when compared to the Radeon RX 7600. The performance to cost margin may not be wide enough for some buyers despite the extra VRAM included on the ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB OC. The future may hold games which will leverage more VRAM and that is the distinction with this card. That may give it more utility. All in all, this is a sound video card in this price and performance tier and it has distinct good looks. It overclocks well. The ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16GB OC is certainly worth consideration.
