343 Industries has rolled out Update 31 for Halo Infinite, and with it comes two major additions to Microsoft’s sci-fi shooter that released in December 2021 but remains exclusive to Xbox consoles and Windows PCs. According to the full patch notes, which can be found here, rubberbanding movement, taking damage around corners, and other issues should be less of a problem for Spartans thanks to the introduction of a new, overhauled network model, while Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) has also been added to the game to thwart cheaters in Halo Infinite’s multiplayer modes.

Update sizes:

  • Xbox consoles: 12.8 GB or less
  • Microsoft Store app or Xbox app on PC: 5.4 GB or less
  • Steam: 5.2 GB or less

343 on its networking and EAC updates:

  • The new networking model introduced in the Firefight matchmaking playlists in December 2023 has been rolled out to the rest of the Halo Infinite online multiplayer experience. Players should experience less instances of rubberbanding movement, taking damage around corners, and other issues caused by becoming desynchronized with the multiplayer server.
  • Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) has been added to Halo Infinite on PC. EAC helps provide a level playing field in online sessions by ensuring the integrity of all players’ game files and background programs. When EAC detects that a player may be attempting to cheat or alter game files in a multiplayer session, they will be removed from the match. EAC is not active in Campaign or Forge’s Edit Mode.

Other highlights of the update include:

  • New Firefight Custom game mode variant and Forge options for crafting new experiences
  • Updated CSR (Competitive Skill Rank) payouts
  • 2024 HCS Weapon Bundles (7) now available via in-game Shop menu
  • Balance changes for seven weapons, including Gravity Hammer
  • Improved stability for Halo Infinite on both Xbox consoles and PC
  • 10 additional improvements based on the new networking model, including more accurate Wraith mortar shots

Squad Battle, Halo Infinite’s 8v8 mode, has also received seven new maps:

Existing in the space between classic 4v4 Team Slayer games and the 12v12 mayhem of Big Team Battle, Squad Battle is a nostalgia filled, action packed 8v8 mode that is ripe for carnage. The current maps should seem familiar and, thanks to our incredibly talented Forgers, the upcoming batch should also be a walk down memory lane.
