Hiroki Totoki, Sony Group Corporation President, COO, and CFO, is officially assuming the role of Interim CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment today, per a blog post that Sony published in September 2023 discussing how Totoki would be appointed that position on April 1, 2024, while continuing his current role at Sony Group Corporation. The leadership changes come a few days after Jim Ryan, PlayStation’s ex-President and CEO, claimed how the PS5 is set to become Sony’s “most successful console ever” in a new episode of the official PlayStation Podcast.
Ryan mentioned:
- “PlayStation 5 is well on track to be our most successful console ever across multiple vectors.”
- “I think the games and the gaming experiences you see on PlayStation 5, lead by PlayStation Studios, are the best that we’ve ever seen.”
- “We’ve been really clear and really consistent about what we stand for great consoles, great console gaming experience, and great games. I would say that right now we’re at the top of our game.”
- “The number of games we’ve published so far on PlayStation 5 at this point in the cycle, way exceeds anything that we’ve ever done before.”
Ryan also stated that consoles aren’t going anywhere in an interview with CNBC last month:
Sony mentioned in September:
…SIE President and CEO Jim Ryan has made the decision to retire in March 2024 after almost thirty years with the PlayStation business. […] Mr. Totoki will be appointed Interim CEO of SIE while he continues his current role at Sony Group Corporation. Mr. Totoki will work closely with Sony Group Corporation Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and the management team of SIE to help define the next chapter of PlayStation’s future, including the succession of the SIE CEO role.
