Nintendo’s upcoming console is just around the corner and details continue to emerge regarding per-orders, accessories, and more. Earlier this month Nintendo officially announced its Switch 2 gaming console. Generally speaking, fans and press alike have had positive things to say about the first generational successor, except maybe for price, but it wasn’t long after its official announcement that something strange happened. Nintendo cancelled all of the U.S. pre-orders leaving many to wonder if it had to do with tariffs or perhaps something else.
So the good news is that the release date has not changed, nor has its price. According to a statement on its website pre-orders will now be available on April 24 for residents of the U.S. Pricing for the console alone remains at $449.99 with the Mario Kart World bundle going for $429.99. However some accessories have had their prices increased. Nintendo released an updated complete price list. By the way, those hoping to make a stocking stuffer with the Mario Kart World bundle need to snag them while they can as Nintendo has said it plans to cease the limited edition bundle in fall 2025 and there may not be enough supplies to last through the holiday season. Although, despite this, don’t be surprised if something else replaces it as it seems hugely unlikely that Nintendo would pass up an opportunity for another bundle by then.

Some game cards may be compatible on both systems
Game publisher Marvelous (Moonlight Peaks, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, Farmagia), has stated on its FaQ (via VGC) that “The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a red 64GB game card that includes, in full, the Nintendo Switch game and the Upgrade Pack,” and “There’s no need to download the full game: simply insert the card into either a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console, and the correct version will launch automatically.”
There’s no word yet on how many of its games this will apply to or games from other publishers. However it does incentivize owners of the first Switch to continue to buy games knowing they’ll have an upgrade path ahead. This is similar to what happened with some games with Sony’s PlayStation 5 arrived.
No More Variable Refresh Rate Support?
No one is really certain why but Nintendo has begun removing mention of VRR support from its websites. The first of its sites to be edited were in the U.S. and Canada. There is a theory this could be due to potential licensing issues regarding its NVIDIA Tegra processor but that has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile it does seem odd to see this feature removed as it has become commonplace for modern consoles and even some mobile devices.
Some weird stuff going on at Nintendo. Looks like they've changed their US website to no longer mention VRR support for TV play? Only HDR and 120Hz support get a call-out. pic.twitter.com/3VmFDfrNvt
