Gaming Performance (Dy-St)
In our game performance testing, we are utilizing an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 FE video card. We are running each game at 1080p, Native Resolution, and we are using mostly the highest game settings. However, in Clair Obscur, we have lowered the game settings. We are using manual in-game run-throughs for each game and reporting the average FPS and 1% Lows. It is important to note the 1% Lows in many instances, especially in those where the AVG is close; the 1% Lows may not be. All games are running the latest versions. All graphs are organized from fastest to slowest.
Dying Light: The Beast

Dying Light: The Beast was a game not yet released when the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X was launched, so this is all new testing for all three CPUs. This one is interesting because if you only focus on the average FPS, there isn’t any difference at all. However, if you look at the 1% Lows, there is actually a HUGE difference in this game, favoring the Ryzen 7 9700X big time! So, on average framerate, the performance is so close it is within the margin of error territory here, so really it’s a wash. HOWEVER, the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X has 1% Low performance that is 15% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X!! This is very significant and, so far, the highest performance difference experienced in all of our testing. THIS makes a difference.
The Ryzen 7 9700X’s 1% Low performance compared to the Ryzen 7 7700 is 23% faster, again a very major performance uplift here. Even the Ryzen 7 7700X does have 1% Lows 7% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700. It is clear that, though the average framerate is the same between all three CPUs, the 1% Low, smoothness, and consistency of the Ryzen 7 9700X are a LOT better in this game.
Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy is a game we did not test originally with the Ryzen 7 9700X launch, so this is all new here. The AMD Ryzen 7 9700X does have a performance uplift over the Ryzen 7 7700X and Ryzen 7 7700. The Ryzen 7 9700X is 9% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700 and 11% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X. The 1% Lows, however, aren’t much higher and match the Ryzen 7 7700. Interestingly, the Ryzen 7 7700 slightly outperformed the Ryzen 7 7700X in this particular game, but the results are very close.
Horizon Forbidden West

In Horizon Forbidden West, performance is very close between all three CPUs. The Ryzen 7 9700X is only 1% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700 and Ryzen 7 7700X CPUs. The 1% Lows are faster, but only by 3% at most.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II was a game also not released at the launch of the Ryzen 7 9700X, so this is an all-new game for testing across all CPUs. The AMD Ryzen 7 9700X is actually showing a performance uplift here. The Ryzen 7 9700X is…..5%…..faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X in average performance. The 1% Lows are 3% faster. The Ryzen 7 9700X is 9% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700. The Ryzen 7 7700X is 4% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700.
Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem was a game not released with the Ryzen 7 9700X launch. Unfortunately, we just aren’t seeing much of a performance difference in this game. The Ryzen 7 9700X is only 2% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X and 3% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700. The 1% Lows are 2% faster. The Ryzen 7 7700X is 1% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl

Stalker 2 was also a game not yet released when we tested the Ryzen 7 9700X. Note that we are using the newest patch of Stalker 2, which upgrades the Unreal Engine version to 5.5.4. The AMD Ryzen 7 9700X does have a slight uplift compared to the Ryzen 7 7700X. WooHoo, the Ryzen 7 9700X is….6%…faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X in this game. The 1% Lows are 4% faster. The Ryzen 7 9700X is 9% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700. The Ryzen 7 7700X is 3% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700.
