System Benchmarks

First, we will start with some system and rendering benchmarks: 3DMark, Cinebench 2026, and Geekbench 7. This will give us an idea of how the CPUs compare outside of gaming.

3DMark

3DMark CPU Profile Max Threads

3DMark’s CPU Profile Max Threads test separates the 12-Core CPUs from the 16-Core CPUs. Within that, however, we can also see how the “X3D” CPUs compare to the non-X3D CPUs of that class. The AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D is slightly less performant than the Ryzen 9 9900X, by a 1.3% difference. However, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D is actually 4% faster than the Ryzen 9 9950X. The Ryzen 9 9900X3D is 23% slower than the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, so that tells you the difference the extra cores make.

3DMark CPU Profile 1 Thread

Looking at the single-thread performance all of the CPUs are close to each other, except the AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D. It is actually 2% slower in single-thread performance compared to the Ryzen 9 9900X. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X are also about 1% faster than the Ryzen 9 9900X.

Cinebench 2026

Cinebench 2026 Multi-Core

In Cinebench 2026, we can also see the difference between 12-Core and 16-Core CPUs. For rendering, the 16-Core CPUs are up to 30% faster than the 12-Core CPUs. Here, we can also see that the Ryzen 9 9900X3D is 0.4% faster than the Ryzen 9 9900X. Interestingly, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D is 5% faster than the Ryzen 9 9950X. The Ryzen 9 9900X3D is 23% slower than the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

Cinebench 2026 Single-Core

In Single-Core performance, all of the CPUs are very close to each other. Technically, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X are slightly faster, by 1%. The Ryzen 9 9900X3D has the lowest score, but it is still so close to the rest here.

Geekbench 7

Geekbench 7 Multi-Core

In Geekbench 7 Multi-Core testing, we can again see the difference between 12-Core and 16-Core CPUs. The 16-Core CPUs add about 13% more performance in this system-focused benchmark. The Ryzen 9 9900X3D is very close to the Ryzen 9 9900X, but is 1% below it. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D is 2% faster than the Ryzen 9 9950X. The Ryzen 9 9900X3D is 12% slower than the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

Geekbench 7 Single-Core

Single-Core performance is close, but the Ryzen 9 9900X3D does have the lowest result, 2% below the Ryzen 9 9900X.

SUMMARY

The AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D is a great hybrid CPU, allowing the very best gaming performance, making it a gaming-focused CPU, but can also cut it with creative content application performance. Being a 12-Core/24-Thread CPU, it can crunch through applications and multi-tasking, much better than an 8-Core CPU, and yet still deliver top-tier gaming performance. It provides this at a lower cost than the 16-Core CPUs, and may just be the best middle-ground of gaming performance and creative content applications at this price point.
