Introduction

The evaluation today shifts to the Intel side of things for the MSI Z890 GAMING PLUS WiFi6E. This board is part of the entry-level gaming motherboard selections from MSI. In the order of things, the GAMING boards are just below the MSI Arsenal Gaming (MAG) selections. On the AMD side, MSI has just recently placed the GAMING PLUS tier into the MAG section, apparently not yet for the Intel side. GAMING PLUS boards tend to be budget-minded in design and connectivity options, but present a very stable and reliable platform. This tier is lacking fancy RGBs and has fewer of the DIY connectors of the higher-tier options. The MSI Z890 GAMING PLUS WiFi6E is offered on the MSI-US store for $199 and carries a three-year warranty.

MSI Z890 GAMING PLUS WiFi6E motherboard: box

This motherboard came to us directly from MSI. It was a full retail version in the standard packaging format. The WiFi antenna is separate from the other accessories, with the board in an anti-static bag. Accessories are fairly slim: two SATA cables, an EZ-Conn cable, two NVME hold-down screws, a sheet of stickers and two booklets.
