You never know what you’ll discover when you start digging into the BIOS of a new graphics card, such as deprecated or unannounced features. Igor Wallossek has found something interesting, as has become the norm with this year’s graphics card releases. This was done with the latest BIOS supplied by software engineer Patrick Shur. You might remember Patrick’s name, as he was the one who reported that the ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 6800 XT could boost up to 2.56 GHz.
Using overclocking software More Power Tool (MPT) with an AIB AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, he discovered various power modes available to the card. It has become normal to see at least two or three modes (e.g., quiet, balanced, turbo), which can save headaches for those wanting to switch performance. Igor found a new “Rage” mode with this card.
We see three modes in this screenshot, along with the new Rage mode. While it may seem the same as the balanced mode, take a closer look at the power limit – it’s been raised to six percent. What is even stranger is that Rage mode’s RPM equals Quiet. Igor estimates this increased power limit would put TDP at around 320 W, but it could be far higher. Clock speed and other unknowns would play a large factor in the final TDP.
