Game Time i9 9900KS CPU

After those many announcements Intel moved on to our favorite subject, gaming.  Intel started by holding up the box for an i9 9900KS Processor.  This is a special edition processor based on Intel’s 9th generation gaming CPU.  Intel claims this is the world’s fastest gaming processor.  Intel claims it can hit 5GHz Turbo all-core clocks-speed.  It is an 8 core/16 thread CPU and the TDP and pricing is unknown.

That’s right, 5GHz on all cores Turbo frequency right out of the box no overclocking needed.  However, on top of that the CPU is unlocked so you can overclock it even higher.  This CPU will be available in the 4th Quarter this fall.  To be honest, we can’t wait to see if this is true, and how much power demand and heat it will put off.

Intel Performance Maximizer

The next announcement was shocking, we did not expect something like this.  Intel is releasing a new piece of software called the Intel Performance Maximizer program that is quote: “Overclocking with Confidence” coming this month in June.

This is an Intelligent and automated overclocking tool based on the CPUs DNA.  That is, it reads the DNA of the CPU you have installed and understands every detail of that CPU with the goal of maximizing performance per-core.  With just a couple of clicks the software examines every core and discovers the maximum frequency per-core.  Using the software Intel managed to get a regular Intel 9700K with a max turbo frequency of 4.6GHz to overclock up to 5.2GHz all-core.

Honestly this sounds very exciting and could make overclocking not only easy for everyone but also potentially able to achieve a higher overclock than you could by yourself.  It is able to understand every bit about the CPU in your system and using AI machine learning learn what works best for your specific CPU.  That means a person with the same CPU sitting right beside you may in fact have a different overclock because of the luck of draw, or binning. It can figure out what your specific CPU tolerances are.

Icelake

For the final announcement Intel did talk about its 10th Generation Icelake processors very briefly.  Intel announced these are 10nm, the most integrated SOC to date and in production right now.

These CPUs are designed with the mobile demanding platform in mind.  There will be eleven new 10nm mobile SKUs from core i3 to core i7.  These CPUs are based on a new core architecture, new Gen 11 graphics and the first high performance AI specific instructions.  They are also integrated with WIFI 6 and Thunderbolt 3.

The reported performance is up to 2.5 times accelerated AI performance, up to twice the graphics performance and up to 3x the connectivity performance.  Unfortunately, no talk about the desktop CPUs.
