Metro Exodus
First note that in the graph the video cards are positioned by price, from the most expensive video card to the least expensive video card based on MSRP. The bar graphs in orange show the new SUPER card performance.
In the graph above we are using the latest version of Metro Exodus. The game is running in DX12 and we have all of the in-game settings at their maximum values for graphics under the “Extreme” preset. We are testing at 1440p. In this test PhysX and HairWorks are OFF. We are using the built-in benchmark for testing results and we verified playability in gameplay. Feel free to test your video cards performance and see how it compares against ours.
This game is hard on graphics, but there are some interesting results. First note that not one video card here managed to average above 50FPS, all video cards are in the 30s-40s, so this is not what we’d call playable. That said, the GTX 1080 Ti and RTX 2070 SUPER perform the best in the lower to mid-40’s. Technically the GTX 1080 Ti barely edges out the RTX 2070 SUPER, but it is so small it might as well be within the margin for error and you can call them “the same.” The RTX 2070 SUPER performance is 14% faster than the RTX 2070 FE. The GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER is 12% faster than the RTX 2060 and is very close to RTX 2070 FE performance.
Dropping down to 1080p is a lot better for these video cards in this game at “Extreme” settings. The GTX 1080 Ti and RTX 2070 SUPER are playable at this setting. Both video cards practically perform the same in this game, it is very demanding. The RTX 2070 SUPER is 15% faster than the RTX 2070 FE while the RTX 2060 SUPER is 12% faster than the RTX 2060. The RTX 2060 SUPER and RTX 2070 FE performance is very close here.
We took it one step further and went ahead and enabled “Ultra” ray tracing in this game at 1080p with “Extreme” settings. This really puts the hurt on performance, no video card is actually playable. You can see though that the two SUPER cards do improve ray tracing performance quite a bit. The RTX 2060 SUPER is very close to the performance of the RTX 2070 FE video card.
