The Laptop

Let’s first go over the laptop itself and the specifications just so you know the whole picture.  The laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad S145-15API Model 81UT003WUS.  Now, if you go to Lenovo’s website, it doesn’t actually quite list this new laptop just yet.  It lists the older model with AMD’s A9, but that should be replaced with the new ones eventually.  The manufacture date of my laptop is 10/10/2019, that’s right, October 10th of 2019 this laptop was manufactured.  It doesn’t get much newer than that!  This laptop was announced in July of 2019.

You can actually find this laptop listed, however, with all of the different model types of the 81UT laptop.  If you search for the specific model number 81UT003WUS you will find all the specifications listed for this laptop.  There is even a PDF with more information about the laptop.

From the specifications, you can see this is a 15.6” laptop with an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U on the AMD SoC Platform.  It has 8GB of DDR4-2400 with 4GB soldered and a DIMM with another 4GB.  It looks like you’ll be stuck at DDR4 2400 since the soldered RAM is 2400 if you wish to upgrade.  That’s really the one sticking point that will slow down the system, I wish the RAM was faster, but that seems to be the rated speed for the 3500U.

It has 256GB M.2 NVME SSD on the PCIe bus, but only at PCIe 3.0 x2 speeds, not x4.  It has a TN 1080p display, 802.11ac WiFi, BT 4.2, a camera, a 35Wh battery, 65W power adapter, and Windows 10 64-bit Home.  The laptop measures 14.3″ in width x 10″ in depth x 0.8″ in height.  It weighs 4.1lb.
