Game Performance Part 3
Wolfenstein Youngblood
In Wolfenstein Youngblood we have the game set here to 1440p with the Mein Leben graphics setting. The percentage difference shows that the overclocked RTX 3080 FE is 7% faster than default. But if you look at the actual average FPS gain that is 20FPS at 1440p in this game, which is impressive.
When we enable Ray Tracing we still see the same 7% performance advantage with the overclock. Compared to RTX 2080 Ti FE that’s 58% faster in this game, which is just darned impressive.
In this graph, the only thing we have done is to enable DLSS. However, you will notice that there is no performance advantage with the overclock, no difference at all. This could be for a couple of reasons. Uniquely, Wolfenstein Youngblood now supports DLSS version 2.1. It also takes advantage of ASYNC Compute on the RTX 3080 Ampere architecture in this game.
Uniquely, the DLSS option to enable this high-performance feature is called UberPerformance, which is what we used. You can read the patch notes here about that. The reason why we aren’t seeing a performance advantage may be related to those topics. It may also be that because the game is rendering at a lower resolution (and upscaling thanks to DLSS) it means the overclock just won’t affect the performance as much since it’s rendering at a lower resolution. In a game like this, which performs so fast anywhere, (I mean we are above 200 FPS here) maybe this is how overclocking behaves with UberPerformance DLSS 2.1 mode.
In this graph, we are at 4K with no Ray Tracing or DLSS. The Overclocked RTX 3080 FE is 8% faster than default. Compared to the RTX 2080 Ti FE it is 44% faster.
This graph enables Ray Tracing at 4K. The performance increase is about 8%. But the actual framerate difference is just 7FPS. Compared to the RTX 2080 Ti FE that is 58% faster.
Finally, we are now running DLSS plus Ray Tracing. Once again, with DLSS enabled in this game at UberPerformance mode there isn’t much of a difference with overclocking the RTX 3080 FE. It’s 2% faster. Compared to the RTX 2080 Ti FE it’s 134% faster, which is just bonkers, but this is due to the new Ampere architecture improvements this game has made in recent patches.
