AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 Specs

At the high-end AMD will be releasing a Radeon RX 6900 XT at $999, however that is slated for release in December. Right now, on November 18th is the release of the Radeon RX 6800 XT at $649. This competes directly with the GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition, as well as previous-generation GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition, and even the GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 SUPER which debuted at $699 for the last generation from NVIDIA. The Radeon RX 6800 XT could be seen as an upgrade path from those video cards.

Some of these slides are common for the Radeon RX 6800 as well.  The Radeon RX 6800 XT is a big leap in performance per Watt over time compared to AMD’s previous releases.  The video card is designed uniquely by AMD with an all-new look and an axial fan style instead of a blower-style like the Radeon RX 5000 series.

There is an extended vapor chamber, graphic thermal interface material on the GPU, and a die-cast aluminum frame.  High-performance ultra-soft gap pads are used for GDDR6 and MOSFET cooling.  There is a die-cast aluminum shroud and custom-designed axial fans that support Zero RPM fan mode.  The PCB is made out of premium IT-170 material and 14-layer with 4 layers of 2oz copper.  The video card uses 15 power-stage phases with two 8-pin standard PCI-Express power connectors.  HDMI 2.1 with FRL is supported, as well as RGB control on the PCB and USB Type-C. AVC1 decode is also supported.

With the 3 axial fans, the air is drawn from underneath from the front air intake in a case and exhausted out the edge of the video card and upwards out the exhaust.  AMD calls this a standard airflow for push-pull chassis configurations and standard power connector location for clean cable management.  AMD rates the Radeon RX 6800 XT at a 750W min PSU and Radeon RX 6800 at a 650W min PSU.

The Radeon RX 6800 XT measures a length of 10.5 inches, a height of 4.7 inches, and width of 2.5-slot.  The AMD Radeon RX 6800 measures exactly the same except in the width, it is not as thick, and thus only 2-slot design.

Compared to the GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition, which is 11.2 inches long the Radeon RX 6800 XT and 6800 are shorter.  However, they are not as narrow as the RTX 3080.  The advantage to length goes to Radeon RX 6800 XT and 6800, but the advantage to narrowness goes to RTX 3080 FE.  The Radeon RX 6800 XT is also technically wider (thicker) than the GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition which is 2-slot like the RX 6800.  Therefore the single advantage to the Radeon RX 6800 XT and 6800 is the length.

Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800 Specifications

AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800 Specification Table

The Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800 are based on the same TSMC 7nm manufacturing process as the Radeon RX 5700 XT. Based on the new RDNA 2 architecture is what sets them apart. The Radeon RX 6800 XT has 72 CUs and thus 72 Ray Accelerators, 4608 Streaming Processors, 128 ROPs, and 128MB Infinity Cache. The Game GPU Clock is up to 2015MHz, and the Boost GPU Clock is up to 2250MHz. It has 16GB of GDDR6 memory at 16GHz on a 256-bit memory bus providing 512GB/s of bandwidth. Board Power is 300W.

The Radeon RX 6800 has 60 CUs and therefore 60 Ray Accelerators, 3840 Streaming Processors, 96 ROPS and 128MB Infinity Cache. The game GPU Clock is up to 1815MHz and the Boost GPU Clock is up to 2105MHz. It also has 16GB of GDDR6 at 16GHz on a 256-bit memory bus providing 512GB/s memory bandwidth. Board Power is 250W.
