1440p Performance
We will start by looking at performance at 1440p 2560×1440. On this page no Ray Tracing is tested, we are only looking at regular game settings, rasterized performance. In-Game benchmarks are used where possible when not a manual run-through is used.
The games below are shown in order of release date, from most recent to oldest. In all games below the highest in-game graphics settings are used.
Dirt 5
For Dirt 5 note that we are using a Beta patch version of the game. AMD provided us early access to a beta patch that will become a public patch in the game in the future. This patch enables the support of Ray Tracing on the PC in this game as an option. Note that the results in this game are an outlier compared to the other games.
What we experience in this game is the Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800 dominating performance currently, with this beta patch. However, performance is pretty good in this game at 1440p anyway across the board, but to maintain 60FPS the RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 3080 FE, RX 6800, and RX 6800 XT allow this. As we mentioned, this game is an outlier at the moment, in no other game for example is the Radeon VII that good, in fact, it’s at the bottom in most games. Results may differ after the game patch and driver optimizations.
Watch Dogs: Legion
In Watch Dogs Legion we have the HD Textures applied and turned on. At 1440p “Ultra” preset the Radeon RX 6800 XT edges out the GeForce RTX 3080 FE by 4% leading in performance. The Radeon RX 6800 is about the same performance as the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE, and faster than the GeForce RTX 3070 FE.
Horizon Zero Dawn
In Horizon Zero Dawn the Radeon RX 6800 XT is just slightly edging out the RTX 3080 FE, but they are still very close. The Radeon RX 6800 is faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
Flight Sim 2020 is very CPU dependent, these results show that. Basically the Radeon VII and Radeon RX 5700 XT suffer, otherwise the rest of the GPUs are in the 40’s. The Radeon RX 6800 XT and GeForce RTX 3080 FE are identical in performance here.
Red Dead Redemption 2
In this game the GeForce RTX 3080 FE beats the Radeon RX 6800 XT by 4% taking the lead. The Radeon RX 6800 is right at GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE performance.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint
In this game the Radeon RX 6800 XT and GeForce RTX 3080 FE match performance, and the Radeon RX 6800 matches the RTX 3070 FE.
Gears 5
In Gears 5 the GeForce RTX 3080 FE beats the Radeon RX 6800 XT by 4%. The Radeon RX 6800 beats the RTX 2080 Ti by 5% and is close to RTX 3070 FE.
Control
So far this is the biggest difference between the Radeon RX 6800 XT and GeForce RTX 3080 FE. The GeForce RTX 3080 FE is 12% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT. The Radeon RX 6800 matches GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE performance.
Wolfenstein Youngblood
The GeForce RTX 3080 FE is 8% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT, but the RX 6800 edges out RTX 2080 Ti FE performance.
The Division 2
The GeForce RTX 3080 FE and Radeon RX 6800 XT are very close in this game. The Radeon RX 6800 and GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE are also close.
Metro Exodus
The Radeon RX 6800 XT does well in this game and is as fast as the RTX 3080 FE, the Radeon RX 6800 is almost as fast as the RTX 2080 Ti FE.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
The GeForce RTX 3080 FE takes a bigger lead in this game, and the Radeon RX 6800 falls back to the performance of the GeForce RTX 3070 FE, which are not price comparable. It seems AMD GPUs have always struggled with SMAA 4X being enabled in this game.
