Gameplay Performance 1440p
We are going to start by looking at 1440p game performance on the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC. We are comparing it with a GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition to see how much of an improvement in performance the GIGABYTE RTX 3090 provides in games. We are also including the Radeon RX 6800 XT as a similar data point. Resizable BAR is enabled for all video cards below. We will test 4K performance on the next page. We will test Ray Tracing and DLSS on a separate page later in the review.
Cyberpunk 2077
In Cyberpunk 2077 we are running at 1440p with the Graphics Preset on “Ultra” quality and the latest 1.2 patch. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC is very playable at these settings and resolution, providing 83FPS is a very smooth gameplay experience. It performs 10% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE and 6% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT. The Radeon RX 6800 XT does surprisingly well at these settings and resolution in this game. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC improves performance by 7%. This brings the improvement over the RTX 3080 FE to 17% which is pretty good.
Dirt 5
In Dirt 5 we are running the latest version 4.00 patch of the game at 1440p and “Ultra High” quality settings. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC plays this game extremely well at 1440p and the highest settings, allowing a 142FPS average. It is 12% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE and 9% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT. When we overclocked it performance improved by 8%. This made it 21% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE!
Horizon Zero Dawn
In Horizon Zero Dawn the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC plays this game extremely well at 1440p and the highest in-game settings. It provides 148FPS average and is 10% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE and Radeon RX 6800 XT. Overclocking it improves performance by 5% and it is now 16% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 we are running the game at “Ultra” at 1440p, but at 1440p we are CPU bound with these video cards. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC is the fastest video card here, and does show the most improvement when overclocked, but even at 1440p we are CPU bound. At 4K you’ll see better scaling. Still, the GIGABYTE RTX 3090 gives us a great experience in the upper 50’s when overclocked, which is very smooth for this game. It’s a big improvement over the Radeon RX 6800 XT.
Watch Dogs Legion
In Watch Dogs Legion the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC chews through this game at 1440p with “Ultra” graphics. It provides near 100FPS average, and overclocked improves performance by 10%. Compared to the GeForce RTX 3080 FE it’s 8% faster and overclocked it’s 18% faster.
Red Dead Redemption 2
The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC also does very well in Red Dead Redemption 2 at 1440p. It provides near 90FPS and overclocking it provides 6% more performance. Compared to the GeForce RTX 3080 FE it’s 10% faster and overclocked it’s 17% faster.
Assassins Creed Valhalla
This game is a bit of an anomaly on the Radeon RX 6800 XT, we checked it three times, and the Radeon RX 6800 XT was just that much faster than the rest for some reason. The Radeon RX 6800 XT in this game is 24% faster than the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC at 1440p. But, the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC does a great job still, providing 90FPS average. It’s 6% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE and overclocked it’s 11% faster.
Wolfenstein Youngblood
The performance in this game is just off the charts at 1440p. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC is 10% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 and overclocked it’s 17% faster.
