GIGABYTE RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE 12G Performance
With our review today, given the high-end nature of this video card, we are going to focus on 4K performance. That said, we will include 1440p in a few games because they are just so demanding at 4K, we need to show both in those particular games. We will include Ray Tracing and DLSS in the games that support it, on the same graphs.
Metro Exodus Enhanced
In Metro Exodus, it requires Ray Tracing, and as such, performance is tough. Therefore we will start by showing this game at 1440p, where this game performs a lot better on these video cards. At 1440p with “Ultra” Ray Tracing the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE 12G provides right under 60FPS of gameplay performance, which is playable. This puts it almost on par with the GeForce RTX 3090 factory OC’d card. However, once we overclock the GIGABYTE RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE it is now faster than the factory overclocked RTX 3090. The cards really shine once we enable DLSS, it takes performance to the ’80s, and this is great for this game, you get Ray Tracing and incredible performance at 1440p.
When you raise this game up to 4K it kills performance to unplayable levels on all video cards. You need DLSS to have a playable experience. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE 12G sits right under the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC until we overclock the 3080 Ti. When we do that, performance increases, and this makes more of a difference with DLSS enabled. Performance at 57FPS is playable at 4K with Ray Tracing.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk is another game where we also need to look at 1440p with these video cards because this is where Ray Tracing is viable with them. Without DLSS, it isn’t, and we can see that performance is rather close, with the overclocked GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE 12G coming on top. However when you enable DLSS, then the game becomes playable with “Ultra” Ray Tracing. It performs in the mid to upper 70’s, and the game is just super smooth and enjoyable. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE 12G has improved performance by 4%, which pushes it over the RTX 3090.
When we crank this game up to 4K at “Ultra” (but without Ray Tracing) performance is similar, or even worse, than 1440p with Ultra Ray Tracing. We still see the same ranking however, the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE 12G remains just below the RTX 3090 until we overclock it. Turning on DLSS makes 4K “Ultra” very playable over 60FPS. The overclocked GIGABYTE RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE has improved performance by 6% over the default performance with DLSS.
Turning on “Medium” Ray Tracing at 4K does cause the game to be unplayable, and overclocking won’t save it here. Turning on DLSS on “Quality” helps, but ultimately higher DLSS settings or lower game settings will have to be done to make it playable. The video cards lineup up, however, just as all the other tests so far.
Dirt 5
Dirt 5 at 4K with “Ultra High” settings performs great on all the video cards, it is very playable. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE 12G is 4% faster than the Radeon RX 6900 XT. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC beats it, however. Though once we overclock the GIGABYTE RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE performance improves by 7%.
What’s amazing is that turning on Ray Tracing in this game at 4K is still playable on every video card here, even the slowest one. The GIGABYTE RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE and Radeon RX 6900 XT and GIGABYTE RTX 3090 GAMING OC are all quite close to each other in performance. Overclocking the GIGABYTE RTX 3080 Ti EAGLE 12G has improved performance by 5%.
