GeForce RTX 3090 FSR

On this page, we will focus on GeForce RTX 3090 performance specifically. On the next page, we will look at Ray Tracing performance between both cards and then we will compare both cards. We are going to look at 1440p and 4K performance with and without Ray Tracing comparing with and without FSR comparing all the FSR quality settings.

1440p

Godfall GeForce RTX 3090 1440p FSR Performance Graph

In the above graph, we are looking at performance on the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC video card at 1440p and Epic Quality. We see that turning on FSR does improve performance at 1440p across the board on the RTX 3090. Turning on Ultra Quality FSR improves performance 20%. Turning on Quality FSR further improves performance 3%. Turning on Balanced FSR further improves performance 15%. Turning on Performance FSR further improves performance 9%.

This is interesting, there doesn’t seem to be much difference between Quality and Ultra Quality in performance. However, there is a jump turning on Balanced, and then also Performance FSR. We didn’t see this on the Radeon RX 6900 XT, it seemed to hit a wall, whereas the RTX 3090 keeps improving in performance down to Performance.

In the above graph, we are running at 1440p on the GeForce RTX 3090 and we have now turned on Ray Tracing. We do see FSR improving performance down the scale. Turning on Ultra Quality improves performance 27%, so this is higher than without Ray Tracing. Turning on Quality FSR further improves performance 4%. This is similar to above, without Ray Tracing. Turning on Balanced FSR improves performance 7%. Turning on Performance FSR further improves performance 3%. We don’t see as big of a difference in these lower quality settings with Ray Tracing turned on.

4K

In the above graph, we are running now at 4K on the GeForce RTX 3090 at Epic Quality. FSR does seem to be improving performance at every level. Turning on Ultra Quality improves performance 37%, which is the largest so far, definitely a bigger advantage at 4K. Turning on Quality FSR further improves performance 14%. Turning on Balanced FSR further improves performance 15%. Turning on Performance FSR further improves performance 10%.
