4K Gameplay Performance
Now we will look at 4K gameplay performance on both video cards. DLSS and FSR will be used as necessary and supported in each game, along with Ray Tracing under each game.
Forza Horizon 5
In Forza Horizon 5 we are running the game at the “Extreme” preset which automatically enables Ray Tracing at “High” and 2X MSAA. Even with Ray Tracing at High and at 4K this game performs really fast on the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID GAMING video card. At 4K we are enjoying 75FPS which is amazing with Ray Tracing enabled. Overclocking the video card improves performance by 5%.
Far Cry 6
In Far Cry 6 we are running the game at 4K with “Ultra” quality preset and HD Textures turned on. In addition, we are also looking at how FSR (AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution) performs on both video cards and what it adds to the performance. In this game, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT seems to perform very well, so well that it is actually faster than the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID GAMING video card even at 4K. It’s faster by 7% with the card not overclocked and then when it’s overclocked it is on par with the EVGA RTX 3080’s performance. Overclocking the EVGA RTX 3080 improves performance by 5%.
FSR helps both video cards here at 4K to improve performance even further. FSR adds 32% more performance to the EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID GAMING video card, bringing it to nearly 100FPS at 4K. FSR adds 33% more performance to the Radeon RX 6800 XT bringing it over 100FPS at 4K.
In this second graph, we have now enabled DXR reflections and shadows so that Ray Tracing is enabled at 4K. In addition, FSR is also enabled with DXR, so these results above are with FSR ENABLED. This shows that with FSR, things like DXR can be very playable in Far Cry 6 at 4K on both video cards. In fact, the Radeon RX 6800 XT is on top again by 6%. Overclocking does help the EVGA RTX 3080 by adding 5% more performance and bringing it in line with the 6800 XT.
Cyberpunk 2077
In the graph above in Cyberpunk 2077, we are running in 4K at “Ultra” but there is no Ray Tracing here. Without DLSS performance is not playable at 4K in this game in “Ultra” settings on either video card. The EVGA RTX 3080 is faster than the 6800 XT by 12%, but it still isn’t fast enough to play and even overclocked it isn’t. However, enabling DLSS makes a big difference, it improves performance by 57% which is a pretty large difference.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Game Of The Year Edition
We did not see much separation at 1440p, but at 4K there is more of a defined difference. The EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID GAMING video card is faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT at 4K by 7%. Overclocking also helps and improves performance by 4%.
Watch Dogs Legion
At 4K this game is also challenging at “Ultra” settings without any Ray Tracing at all. The EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID GAMING video card is 7% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT, and overclocking has improved it by 5%. Enabling DLSS is the real kicker, bringing performance up 34% to 78FPS. That makes 4K very playable.
Metro Exodus Enhanced
4K pretty much kills performance in this game at the “Extreme” quality setting with Ultra Ray Tracing. None of the video cards are playable without DLSS. The EVGA RTX 3080 is 38% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT. Turning on DLSS though improves performance by 53% and with the card overclocked makes that over 60FPS and very playable.
