Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3050 Gaming OC 8G

Default

Prior to overclocking, we will determine the base GPU clock speed.  Both NVIDIA and AMD have dynamic base speeds, both have a “Boost” speed.  (GPU Boost or Boost Clock, depending on the brand.)  Generally, either brand’s card will exceed the “Boost” dynamically. To determine the “baseline” we record the  GPU frequency in our Cyberpunk 2077 manual run-through. This is a lengthy manual run at Ultra settings. Data is captured for frequency, temperature, voltage, and power using GPU-Z sensor to log the data.

The GIGABYTE Geforce RTX 3050 Gaming OC 8G has a factory overclock of 1822 MHz.  This is shown by the green line on the graph.  Due to the GPU Boost, the frequency while gaming is above that.  On average the frequency is between 1915and 1922MHz while in-game.  This represents a 90 to 100MHz difference.

To overclock the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3050 Gaming OC 8G the manufacturer-provided software is used.  In this case GIGABYTE Aorus Engine.  This software allows adjustment of power and temperature limits, core voltage, as well as Core and Memory frequency.  Fan adjustment is also available. Below is a screen capture of the highest setting in Aorus Engine.

The Aorus Engine also allows controls of RGB lighting if the GPU supports it as well as other compatible RGB devices.  Monitoring of various parameters is also available as well as customizing fan speeds versus temperature.

We were able to increase the Core clock by +170 on the GPU.  This enabled the GPU clock speed to reach a steady 2097MHz.  This is 175MHz above the default Boost Clock, roughly a 10% gain in clock speed.  The memory was able to be increased +400 above baseline or roughly to 1800MHz.

This clock speed is in keeping with the results of other reviews here and here.
