Power and Temperature

To test the power and temperature we perform a manual run-through in Cyberpunk 2077 at “Ultra” settings for real-world in-game data.  We use GPU-Z sensor data to record the results.  We report on the GPU-Z sensor data for “Board Power” and “GPU Chip Power” when available for our Wattage data.  For temperature data, we report the GPU (Edge Temp of the GPU or Package Temp) as well as Hot Spot (Junction Temperature) when available for our temperature data.

MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti VENTUS 3X 12G OC Video Card Review Power Graph

The Board Power of the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti VENTUS 3X 12G OC is 341.8W, and by overclocking it we reach 352.8W, an increase of just 3% more power to gain 6-7% more performance thanks to overclocking. This is an efficient increase in power versus the performance gain. Remember, this video card is limited to the TDP, and we cannot overcome that for overclocking, to begin with. The AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT has a much higher GPU Chip power, guzzling power.

MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti VENTUS 3X 12G OC Video Card Review Temperature Graph

The MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti VENTUS 3X 12G OC uses a custom cooler, and this shows it off best here. The GPU temperature was only 74.8c and the Hot Spot was 81.2c. The AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT reference card runs much hotter at GPU temp and especially Hot Spot. When we overclocked the MSI RTX 3080 Ti VENTUS we raised the fan speeds to 100%. With 100% fan speeds, and our highest overclock, the GPU temp was just 60c and Hot Spot at 66c. This GPU temperature seems to be on par with the Founders Edition GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, and we know that it uses a good cooler.
