GoldenEye 007, Rare’s unforgettable N64 shooter, is headed to Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch. Xbox is getting a “faithfully recreated” version of the spy shooter that has been updated with improved control options, native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD , and more, according to Craig Duncan, Studio Head of Rare, while the Switch version of the 1997 title will feature an exclusive in the form of online play. Rare has promised in a tweet that the Xbox Game Pass version is releasing “soon.”

From Duncan, writing for Xbox Wire:

The original experience has been updated with improved control options (including dual analogue stick support), native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD (where supported), a consistent refresh rate and a full complement of achievements to unlock.

GoldenEye 007 will be made available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as part of Xbox Game Pass. Additionally, players who own a digital copy of Rare Replay, the 30-game compilation of classics from the award-winning studio behind GoldenEye 007’s original release, will be able to download and enjoy the game free of charge.

From a Nintendo roundup:

Many fan-favorite games will also be returning on Nintendo Switch, including a remaster of the classic action-RPG Tales of Symphonia from BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment; cloud versions of four frighteningly fun Resident Evil titles from CAPCOM; plus, a new lineup of Nintendo 64 games will be headed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service in the future, including titles from the Mario Party and Pokémon Stadium series, as well as Pilotwings 64, Excitebike 64, 1080° Snowboarding. And the game that carried many Nintendo 64 parties late into the evening … GoldenEye 007 returns!

As first announced during the latest Nintendo Direct broadcast, the Nintendo 64 classic is coming soon to the console’s Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online service. Microsoft also confirmed news today (September 13) that a 4K resolution remaster is on its way to Xbox’s Game Pass.
