AIDA64 CPU Benchmarks

Now we will look at some specific AIDA64 CPU Benchmarks which test specific parts of the CPUs. The AIDA64 AES benchmark performance using AES data encryption. The SHA3 benchmark tests CPU performance using the SHA3 hashing algorithm and is AVX-512 aware. The FPU Julia benchmarks measure the single-precision floating-point performance of the CPU. The FPU Mandel CPU test tests the double-precision floating-point performance of the CPU.

CPU AES

In AES encryption the new Intel Core i9-13900K is thoroughly beaten by the Ryzen 9 7950X by 28%. The 13900K is competitive here in AES encryption with the Ryzen 9 7900X. However, this is still a big improvement over the previous generation’s 12900K because the new 13900K is a very large 44% faster than the previous generation, so that is a big improvement.

CPU SHA3

In CPU SHA3 we once again see the Ryzen 9 7950X beating the Intel Core i9-13900K, this time by a smaller 13%. The Core i9-13900K is between the 7900X and 7950X in performance, with it being 15% faster than the 7900X. Compared to the previous generation 12900K the new 13900K is 54% faster, which is huge.

FPU Julia

Intel Core i9-13900K CPU FPU Julia Performance Graph

In FPU Julia we see that the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X and 7950X have a performance advantage over the 13900K. The 7900X is 11% faster and the 7950X is 36% faster. Compared to the previous generation, the 13900K is 39% faster, which is pretty big.

FPU Mandel

The same holds true for FPU Mandel, the Ryzen 9 7900X is 14% faster than the 13900K and the 7950X is 34% faster. Compared to the 12900K the new 13900K is 38% faster, which is a big jump in performance.

Memory Read

Remember, we are using the same RAM kit on Zen 4, Alder Lake, and Raptor Lake. We are running the same DDR5-6000 MT/s and the same timing profile. The Intel Core i9-13900K has the highest bandwidth at 95GB/s. It is in line with Alder Lake for the most part. This is much faster than the AMD AM5 platform, with Zen 4 CPUs. Raw memory bandwidth isn’t everything, but it can mean more when it comes to mobile platforms or integrated graphics performance.

Memory Write

Memory write performance is also strong on the Intel Core i9-13900K, in line with Raptor Lake and Alder Lake CPUs. Once again we find that this performance of memory bandwidth is faster than that of AMD AM5 and Zen 4 CPUs, despite using the exact same RAM, frequency, and timings.

Memory Latency

We also look at memory latency and find the Intel Core i9-13900K to fall below 70ns, so this is good, though it is on the higher side, but aligns with the Ryzen 9 7950X for the most part. We do see the Ryzen 9 7900X has the best latency overall.

SUMMARY

We put the Intel Core i9-13900K Raptor Lake CPU through its paces and benchmarked synthetic and gaming scenarios at various resolutions. The CPU maintained a high-performance level, rivaling the competition, AMD Ryzen 7000 series. However, it came at a high cost, that cost was power usage and temperature. While it is loaded with features, its overall value is detracted by way of this tremendous power utilization in order to maintain its performance leadership.
