Krafton, the video game holding company best known for owning PUBG: Battlegrounds, has announced that it is acquiring Neon Giant, the Swedish developer behind last year’s solo and co-op action-shooter RPG The Ascent.
The news comes from a preliminary earnings announcement for Q3 2022 that Krafton shared today, which includes a paragraph about its acquisition plans and how it is also establishing a major studio in Canada to lead development on a fantasy project based on a best-selling novel called The Bird That Drinks Tears.
Krafton additionally confirmed that Neon Giant is working on a new open-world FPS game, although it’s unclear whether that will also take place in a cyberpunk setting like the one introduced in The Ascent, which released in 2021 for PC and Xbox Series X|S before heading to PlayStation consoles this year.
Cyber Heist, a DLC package with new missions, enemies, and more, was released for The Ascent in August 2022.
From a Krafton press release:
Furthermore, KRAFTON continues to invest in its development and service capabilities to ensure a steady pipeline of premium titles. The company announced plans to acquire Swedish studio Neon Giant (The Ascent), which is currently working on an open-world FPS game. KRAFTON also plans to establish a major studio in Canada to lead development of The Bird That Drinks Tears project. Additionally, the company has a number of high-quality console and PC titles in active development across various genres, including Project Black Budget (PvPvE hardcore looter shooter), Project Roam (multiplayer PvPvE shooter) and the next Subnautica game (adventure).
