Gameplay Performance
We are going to focus on the 4K gameplay performance with the MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO video card in raster performance on this page. Ray Tracing will be on a separate page. We will include DLSS and FSR performance on the same graph in the games that are supported. We will use DLSS on NVIDIA GPUs and FSR on AMD GPUs. For video card comparisons we are using a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti FE video card and a GeForce RTX 3090 FE video card, a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti video card, and a Radeon RX 6900 XT video card.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare II
Call of Duty Modern Warfare II was released on October 27, 2022, on the PC and uses the IW 9.0 gaming engine. The game supports all upscaling methods, including NVIDIA DLSS, NVIDIA Image Scaling, AMD FSR 1.0, AMD Fidelity FX CAS, and Intel XeSS. We use the highest quality option of each. We customize every graphics setting to the maximum value for the best image quality and enable everything. We use the built-in benchmark.
In Call of Duty Modern Warfare II the MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO can play this game at a very high 97FPS at 4K with maximum settings. This beats the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti by 23% and the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti by 39%. Overclocking the MSI RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO improves performance by 7% and brings it to over 100FPS at 4K. In addition, we can enable DLSS in the game which improves performance by 39% and brings it up to 135FPS. Or, when overclocked with DLSS we can reach 145FPS.
F1 2022
F1 2022 was released on June 28th, 2022 on the PC and uses Codemasters Ego engine. The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, AMD FidelityFX, and FSR. We are going to run the game with the highest quality settings of “Ultra High” and TAA+FidelityFX. We will enable DLSS and FSR as needed at the Quality setting for both. We will utilize the built-in benchmark in the Imola track, in dry conditions with a far-chasing cam.
In F1 2022 the MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO is playable at 4K with maximum settings and allows over 150FPS average. This is 9% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti and 25% faster than the RTX 3080 Ti. Overclocking the MSI RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO improves performance by 10% and brings it up to 168FPS, nearly 170. Enabling DLSS can really take this game to new heights at 4K, allowing the MSI RTX 4080 GAMING X TRIO to hit 211FPS overclocked with DLSS.
Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022 on the PC and uses Techland’s C-Engine. The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, and FSR2. We use the built-in preset to set “HIGH QUALITY” which sets the highest game graphics, without Ray Tracing. We manually enable DX12 and ASYNC Compute. For our benchmark, we are using a custom manual run-through at the end of the game hopping between rooftops, as well as free-roaming on the ground city level, as well as a forested area, in the daylight.
Dying Light 2 is a demanding game especially at 4K with maximum settings, however the new MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO chews through this game with room to spare. It can provide an over 70FPS experience at 4K with maximum game settings. This is 13% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti and 29% faster than the RTX 3080 Ti. Overclocking the video card improves things even more, by 7%, and brings it up to nearly 80FPS at 4K. DLSS also helps improve performance by a large 61% and we get 120FPS. With the card overclocked and with DLSS it’s sitting above 120FPS.
Far Cry 6
Far Cry 6 was released in October of 2021 and uses the Dunia Engine. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing. We have the HD Texture pack installed and turned on. We utilize the “Ultra” graphics preset which sets all options to the highest game settings. This game supports FSR upscaling.
In FarCry 6 the MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO is able to provide above 100FPS at 4K with the highest in-game settings. This is 14% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti and 26% faster than the RTX 3080 Ti. Overclocking the video card improves performance by 9% and brings performance up to 112FPS. FSR can also improve performance bringing it up to nearly 150FPS with overclocking.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December 2020 and uses the REDengine 4. We have the game patched to version 1.6 and perform a long manual run-through driving in the game’s open world. We test using the Graphics Preset option to set graphics settings, mainly “Ultra”. This game supports DLSS and FSR.
We all know Cyberpunk 2077 is very demanding, but the MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO is able to play it smoothly at over 60FPS at 4K at “Ultra” settings, which is impressive. It is the only video card here that can run over 60FPS without upscaling. This is 16% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti and 31% faster than the RTX 3080 Ti. Overclocking the video card also helps by improving performance by 8% bringing it to nearly 70FPS at 4K. DLSS can further improve performance, making it over 70FPS.
Watch Dogs Legion
Watch Dogs Legion was released on the PC in October of 2020 and uses the Disrupt game engine. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing. We have the HD Texture pack installed and enabled for testing. We use the built-in graphics preset of “Ultra” for testing. This game supports DLSS upscaling.
In Watch Dogs Legion the MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO can provide an experience that is phenomenal at over 85FPS at 4K with the highest settings. This is 19% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti and 34% faster than the RTX 3080 Ti. Overclocking the video card improves performance by 8% and brings it up to over 90FPS. DLSS also improves performance by 40% and overclocking brings that above 120FPS.
